Recycled Commodities

We wish to make customers aware of changes to the booking process for recycled commodities like waste paper, scrap metal and scrap plastic.

Shipper and Consignee Verification

We at OOCL take our responsibility to the environment seriously, and as part of the booking process we respectfully ask you to provide, at the time of booking,

  • The Shipper’s name and address
  • If Chinese destination, their AQSIQ License Number
  • The Consignee’s name, address, telephone number and contact party name
OOCL Customer Service will then make checks to ensure that both the Shipper and the Consignee have the respective licenses and Letters of Indemnity in place, and that the Consignee will accept the cargo.

Shippers and Consignees are re-verified every 3 months, therefore if you ship cargo regularly and the Shipper(s) and Consignee(s) have been pre-approved by OOCL there will be no delay in the booking process.

If however you are shipping cargo to a new Consignee, or one that OOCL has not previously approved, then you may experience a delay.

Unique Consignment Reference Number (UCR)

Please be reminded that OOCL requires the UCR number at time of booking, unless we are arranging export customs clearance on your behalf. If you are unable to provide this reference we will be unable to process your booking.

Collection Times

For Recycled Commodities we now require 3 working days notice to arrange export collection under Carrier Haulage (e.g. bookings should be placed before 12:00 midday on Monday for collection the following Thursday).

Please be flexible and allow for the majority to be handled in the afternoon. However, if there are a large number of collections from the same depot on the same day, an even spread of morning and afternoon times will be accepted.

We thank customers for their understanding in respect of these requests, which are intended to improve the flow of information and the overall efficiency of booking process for all parties involved.

For further information on Recycled Commodities, please refer to the Export Bookings section in our Customer Service Guide.
