OOCL's MT programme is the perfect way to jumpstart one's career in shipping. As an MT, I worked in different departments, and learned the main business of the company and how it operates. Shipping being a global business, MTs get a chance to work with colleagues from all around the world. Indeed, one of the highlights of my MT journey was my year working in our UK intra-Europe trade department.

These experiences enable MTs to be key players in the company's operations upon completing their 3-year programme.

Looking back into 2022, joining OOCL as a Management Trainee is one of my most remarkable decisions that I have made in my life. Because here brings me an all-round understanding of the shipping and logistics industry. In three-year MT journey, I got changes rotating to various functions within OOCL, such as operation, trade, project management, which profoundly build-up my shipping knowledge and business sense.

This program also gives me chances to work with colleagues from different countries, other shipping lines, and our loyal customers. It helps enhance my problem-solving & communication skills to comp-up with solutions for maximizing company interest. The most unforgettable experience on my MT program was under Space and Traffic Control Center and working with our biggest regions - China, Trade Commercial Team, Ship Planner, Local Operation for maximizing all the available space in the vessel while minimizing our cost.

The program structure provides precious opportunities for me to take lead on different duties and have chances to use my own thoughts to deal with problems. These experiences bring me a sense of accomplishment and belonging on my OOCL MT journey.

2022 Intake

Joining the MT program has been a game-changer in my career. Through dynamic job rotations, I've gained hands-on experience across departments, especially in strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

A standout experience was contributing to an AI initiative, where I worked with different teams to develop and refine the Trade AI Assistant for commercial use. This project deepened my understanding of AI, data management, and cross-functional collaboration

The MT program gave me valuable exposure to the shipping industry, helping me understand its operational complexities, trade flows, and commercial dynamics-knowledge I hadn't expected to gain but now see as essential to my role. By exposing me to diverse functions and encouraging me to think beyond immediate responsibilities, the program also instilled a strong sense of ownership and accountability-qualities I believe are foundational for any future leader.

For anyone seeking growth, impact, and clarity, this program is the perfect launchpad.
