OOCL Shenzhen, the largest vessel in the OOCL container fleet at 8,063 TEUs, today sailed into Modern Terminals at Kwai Chung, Hong Kong, on her maiden voyage to Europe.
OOCL Shenzhen is the first "SX" Class vessel delivered to OOCL. A total of eight "SX" Class newbuildings have been ordered with Samsung Heavy Industries. Two are scheduled for delivery in 2003, four during 2004 and a further two in 2005.
OOCL Shenzhen, the largest container vessel registered in Hong Kong, was christened in Korea on 30th April, 2003 by Mrs Irene Chang, wife of Mr TR Chang, CEO of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. OOCL Shenzhen commenced her maiden voyage by calling at Shanghai, Xiamen and then Shenzhen under OOCL’s China Europe Express Loop of the Asia Europe Service of the Grand Alliance.
OOCL Shenzhen, with Captain CF Lum at the helm, was welcomed by Mr SY Tsui, Director of the Marine Department, Mr PC So, General Manager of the Shipping Registry & Seafarers’ Branch, and the management of Modern Terminals.

OOCL Shenzhen will next call at Singapore, before traveling to Europe through the Suez Canal.
