China / Straits Service - Another Enhancement to the China Network of OOCL

Orient Overseas Container Line is to launch a new China / Straits Service (CSS) to enhance its service network for China. This is in direct response to the growing needs of customers in the transportation of cargo between China and Southeast Asia, which has outgrown the existing capacity OOCL is providing to the trade. Three 1,500-teu vessels will be deployed, with the first sailing by OOCL Ability from Port Kelang on April 10, 2003. Other Southeast Asian cargo will be served using Singapore as hub to the new service.

As a major trading nation, China requires an efficient supply of raw materials and semi-finished manufactured components, as well as the need to have an effective transportation network to distribute its finished products to market. Cargo flow between China and Southeast Asia has risen considerably over the past few years, and there are no signs of this growth abating.

"The intra-Asia network of OOCL is one of the most extensive in the industry. As a major service provider for China, we have decided to further enhance our network by adding another direct service to the Straits and Southeast Asia through Singapore as a hub to meet our customer demand," said Mr. Stephen Ng, Director of Intra-Asia Trade.

The CSS rotation will be:

Xingang (Sun/Mon), Qingdao (Tue/Tue), Shanghai (Wed/Thu), Xiamen (Sat/Sat), Singapore (Wed/Thu), Port Kelang (Thu/Fri), Singapore (Sat/Sun), Ningbo (Fri/Fri) and back to Xingang.
