Christening of   "OOCL Shenzhen"  in Koji Island, Korea

OOCL celebrated the christening of "OOCL Shenzhen" at Koji Island, Korea today. "OOCL Shenzhen",  is a "SX" class vessel, with the largest declared capacity of the world at  8,063 TEUs.  It is also the largest vessel ever built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.

The vessel was christened this morning by Mrs. Irene Chang, the wife of Mr. T.R. Chang, CEO of OOCLL

"OOCL Shenzhen" will be phased in as replacement tonnage for OOCL’s existing China Europe Express Loop of the Asia Europe Service of the Grand Alliance.  

Mr. T.R. Chang, CEO of OOCLL said in his address at the christening ceremony, " The various newbuilding programmes have been in line with our long-term business and internal organic growth plans. We believe that these are what we must concentrate upon and be guided by so as to be prepared for future business growth. By enhancing our fleet, we can remain competitive and provide efficient services to our customers at greater economies of scale."

OOCL has so far has two 8,000 TEU "SX" Class newbuildings scheduled for delivery in 2003, four for delivery during 2004 and a further two for delivery in 2005.
