December

OOCL is proud to announce on December 18, 2009, the christening of the twelfth Panamax class vessel in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels, "OOCL Charleston" ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

Grand Alliance partners Hapag-Lloyd (HL), Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) announced they will add a direct Vietnam call at Cai Mep deepwater port to their Asia East Coast Express (AEX) service, from January 9, 2010. This additional link is a further improvement of the Grand Alliance service network.

OOCL is proud to announce on November 23, 2009, the christening of the eleventh Panamax class vessel, "OOCL Nagoya", in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

OOCL Logistics launched of Payment Audit, a unique product package which offers OOCL Logistics customers total visibility when checking the validity of their carrier bill.

OOCL is proud to announce on November 5, 2009, the christening of the tenth Panamax class vessel, OOCL Dalian in our line of sixteen 4,500-tEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

OOCL Logistics launched Purchase Order Distribution. which helps customers minimise their costs for most purchase order management work, from order creation, dispatch, distribution tracking, and housekeeping to data reports. It can also reduce administration overhead in managing order distribution and vendor responses.

OOCL is pleased to announce changes in our headquarters and management positions, with the aim of enhancing strategic planning and organizational efficiency.

OOCL Logistics has demonstrated its leadership in information technology and innovative solutions with the launch of MyPodium Mobile on October 19, 2009. MyPodium Mobile is designed specially for OOCL Logistics’ International Supply Chain Management customers, who need access to information when travelling outside of the office.

OOCL won Logistics Management's "Ocean Carrier" Quest for Quality Award. OOCL was once again included in the winner circle of the 'Ocean Carrier' category, ranked number 3 on the list, achieving an above average score on all five service areas.

OOCL was the proud winner of "Carrier of the Year" at the 2009 Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association's Western Region's Forwarder's Choice Award Ceremony.

OOCL is proud to announce on September 4, 2009, the christening of the ninth Panamax class vessel, "OOCL New Zealand" in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

OOCL is proud to announce on July 17, 2009, the christening of the eighth Panamax class vessel, "OOCL Brisbane" in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

OOCL’s environmental stewardship efforts have been recognized by one of its logistics partners, Baydelta Maritime, in a ceremony held in San Francisco on July 1, 2009.

OOCL won the Best Liner Owner/Operator Award at the Seatrade Asia Award ceremony, held in Shanghai on June 25, 2009.

CC Tung, Chairman and CEO of Orient Overseas International Ltd (OOIL) has been presented the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Seatrade Asia Awards, for his “significant and lasting contribution to the region’s shipping and maritime industry”. The award ceremony was held in Shanghai on June 25, 2009.

Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) have agreed to merge the SCX (South China Sea Express) and the JCX (Japan China Express) into a single loop. The new service will take effect from May 25, 2009, sailing from Thailand.

The shipping line MISC Berhad (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) has informed the partners in the Grand Alliance that it will withdraw from services between Europe (incl. Mediterranean) and the Far East with effect from January 1st 2010. MISC does not operate with the Grand Alliance on the Transpacific or Transatlantic trades.

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Yang Ming Line (YML) will upgrade the joint China Pakistan Express (CPX) service by adding an additional call to Nhava Sheva. The upgrade will take effect from May 21, 2009.

OOCL’s environmental care initiatives are featured in a new "how to" guide written specifically to empower businesses in Hong Kong to reduce their carbon footprints.

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Tokyo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd. (TSK Line) and COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. (COSCON) have agreed to operate a new joint service, the MEX (Middle East Express).

Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), together with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, will cooperate with Hamburg Süd on the Atlantic Express Service (ATX).  

Mr CC Tung, Chairman and CEO of Orient Overseas International Ltd., was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award; the Grand Alliance was awarded Best Container Shipping Alliance (members include Hapag-Lloyd, MISC Berhad, NYK and OOCL) Award and OOCL Logistics won Best Logistics Service Provider – Sea Freight Award  at the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCAs), held in Hong Kong on April 22, 2009.

Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Zim Integrated Shipping Services have agreed to cooperate on the service from South China to US East Coast via the Panama Canal.

Orient Overseas (International) Ltd. announced its annual results of 2008 on March 20, 2009.  It announced a profit attributable to shareholders of US$272 million for the year ended 31st December 2008, compared to the profit of US$2,547 million recorded in 2007.  The reported profit for year 2007 included a gain of US$1.99 billion from the disposal of Terminals Division.  Net profit attributable to shareholders from continuing operations dropped 50% from US$552 million in 2007 to US$272 million in 2008. The Directors are recommending the payment of a final dividend of US4.5 cents (HK$0.35) per share.

OOCL, as a member of the Hong Kong-based Climate Change Business Forum (CCBF), is delighted to congratulate the Forum on its first anniversary (March 17, 2009).

OOCL has demonstrated its industry leadership in information technology with the launch of a new online interactive product, My OOCL Center, available online today (March 9, 2009).

OOCL Logistics (Japan) Ltd has been accredited with an Eco-Ship Mark by the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism.

OOCL is proud to announce on February 6, 2009, the christening of the seventh Panamax class vessel, OOCL Norfolk, in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.
