November

  • OOCL becomes the 1st container carrier that has successfully completed the SQE (Safety, Quality & Environmental Protection certification by leading international classification society - The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), for its ship management function.
October

  • OOCL has launched a new version of oocl.com - the site has a modern attractive design and contains many advanced features and new functions that have been designed to better serve the needs of its customers; it was launched on 1 October, 2002.
August

  • OOIL announced 2002 interim results on 16 August, 2002.  OOIL announced a profit before taxation of US$4.1 million compared with US$54.7 million for the same period last year.  After taxation and minority interests, the Group reported a profit of US$1.0 million, a decrease of US$48.1 million from the US$49.1 million earned during the first half of 2001.

  • OOCL announced the introduction of a new service for its intra-Asia service to cover the ports of Haikou in Hainan Province of China and Setouchi area in Japan.
  • OOCL announced the appointment of Agencia Naviera De Mexico, S.A. De C.V. (Agnamex) as its new Agent in Mexico

  • OOCL announced the creation of a 100% owned agency company, OOCL (Russia) Limited.  It will commence on July 1, 2002 and be based in St Petersburg with a Moscow sales office.
April

  • OOCL and WH announce enhancements in their joint China/ Middle East service
  • ANL and COZ (China Shipping, OOCL and Zim) will commence a new Australia to North Asia Service from May.

March

  • OOIL announces results for 2001 on 15 March, 2002.  A profit after taxation and minority interests of US$59.6 million for the year ended 31st December 2001, a 46.7% decrease against the US$111.9 million was recorded for the corresponding period in 2000.  The Directors are recommending a final dividend of US1.5 cents (HK11.7 cents).  Together with the interim dividend of US 1 cent (HK7.8 cents), this represents a dividend for the year of US2.5 cents (HK19.5 cents), a decrease of 37.5% from that for 2000.
