December
For the fourth time in a row, OOCL received a rating of Level A in the BICEPS (Boosting Initiatives for Collaborative Emissions-reduction with the Power of Shippers) rating system that recognizes companies with excellent sustainability efforts and performance. BICEPS is a network of shippers joining forces to accelerate the transition of the global shipping sector towards more sustainability initiatives.
On December 8, OOCL received the “Award for Outstanding Port State Control (PSC) Performance in 2019” from the Marine Department of the HKSAR. Since 2008, the Marine Department has been awarding Hong Kong flag ships registered in Hong Kong for their outstanding performance in Port State Control. The award recognizes OOCL’s outstanding ship management capabilities in conforming to international standards and contributions to maintaining the good reputation of the Hong Kong flag around the world.

On October 30, OOCL signed newbuilding contracts with shipyards Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co. Ltd. (DACKS) for seven new containerships, each with a nominal capacity of 23,000 TEU, at a total cost of approximately US$1.1 billion.
OOCL proudly received the 2020 Information Visionary award at the IDC Digital Transformation Awards (DX Awards) Hong Kong from the successful development and new advancements made to its MyOOCLReefer solution. Organized by IDC Hong Kong, the DX Awards shines the spotlight on outstanding organizations that have made important breakthroughs in their digital transformation journey.
On October 5, OOCL received the Gold Award (service sector) at the 2019 BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards ceremony. This prestigious awards program recognized OOCL’s continuous commitment to promoting environmental and low-carbon best practices in Hong Kong and the Pan Pearl River Delta region. It was the second time OOCL received the gold standing from this awards program organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI).

To further strengthen OOCL’s China to South-East Asia service network, OOCL introduced an new China Indonesia Philippines service (CIP) which enhances the network coverage in China, Indonesia and the Philippines.
OOCL launched two new products, namely China Straits Service 1 (CSS1) and China Straits Service 2 (CSS2), which enhances market coverage between China, Singapore, and Malaysia, providing customers with competitive and reliable shipment options in OOCL’s comprehensive intra-Asia network.
August
On August 21, Orient Overseas (International) Limited and its subsidiaries (the “Group") announced a profit attributable to equity holders of US$102.1 million for the six-month period ended June 30, 2020, compared to a profit of US$139.0 million for the same period in 2019.
Effective August 10, Mr. Xiaowen Huang was appointed as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of OOIL to succeed Mr. Haimin Wang.
OOCL launched a new service named Transpacific Latin Pacific 3 (TLP3) in the Latin America market. The new product in the Asia – West Coast South America network offers a competitive transit time between Chile and Southern China and enhances OOCL’s network coverage in the region.

OOCL proudly received the 2019 Green Flag Environmental Achievement Certificate from the Port of Long Beach for the recognition of OOCL vessels’ participation in the speed reduction program which aims at reducing emission and improve the air quality for the local communities.
On July 3, OOCL received a gold trophy from the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) in the transport and logistics sector for the fourth time. The HKAEE recognize organizations that had showcased leadership in environmental excellence and outstanding achievements.

OOCL proudly received the Fuel Efficiency Award at the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2020 on June 23, 2020 for its achievement in fuel savings and efficiency improvements. This annual industry event pays tribute to companies with remarkable achievements in various aspects of Asia’s maritime industry.

On March 23, Orient Overseas (International) Limited and its subsidiaries (the “Group”) announced a profit attributable to equity holders for 2019 of US$1,348.8 million, compared to a profit of US$108.2 million in 2018.
OOCL signed newbuilding contracts with shipyards Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co. Ltd. (DACKS) for five new container vessels, each at a cost of $155.68 million with a nominal capacity of 23,000 TEU.
February
OOCL and other eight industry-leading ocean carriers and terminal operators, namely CMA CGM, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, COSCO SHIPPING Ports, Hapag-Lloyd, Hutchison Ports, Port of Qingdao, PSA International, and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), signed a shareholders’ agreement indicating their intention to become shareholders of the proposed Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN).
OOCL, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, Ocean Network Express and Yang Ming announced the launch of a new weekly Trans-Atlantic service named East Mediterranean – America Service (EMA). As a dedicated service between East Mediterranean and East Coast America, the EMA will offer competitive transit times and provide more service frequencies in the market.

OOCL presented the latest line up of OCEAN Alliance products to meet the evolving needs of the market. The fine tuning adjustments made to the products each year have also been key to our success in building a consistently strong and reliable network for customers.
Following his resignation as Co-Chief Executive Officer of OOCL, and effective from January 1, 2020, Mr. Andy Tung was re-designated as a Non-Executive Director of OOIL and became Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of OOCL.
