OOCL signed for two 4,250-TEU panamax vessels with China State Shipbuilding Corporation and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd., on September 21, 2004. The signing marks the first newbuilding order OOCL has made with a Chinese shipbuilding company.

OOCL Japan has beaten 1,894 other vessels to win the inaugural Pusan Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries' (MOMAF) Best Qualified One Vessel.Of the 1,894 vessels inspected, 10 were chosen as 'high-quality' vessels, with OOCL Japan coming out on top.

ANL Container Line (ANL) and ACE group members, China Shipping Container Lines Ltd and Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd (OOCL) have jointly set up an ANL/ACE North Asia Service, AANA, which will commence operation in mid May, 2004.
The port rotation will be Yokohama / Osaka / Pusan / Qingdao / Shanghai / Ningbo / Xiamen / Hong Kong / Kaohsiung / Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane / Yokohama on a fixed day weekly basis.

m.v. OOCL Rotterdam, the third SX-class post-Panamax container vessel (8,063 TEUs) ordered by OOCL with Samsung Heavy Industries, was christened at the PSA Pasir Pajang Terminals in Singapore today. It is the first of the four vessels scheduled to be delivered to OOCL in 2004.
